25mg taken every night as a muscle relaxant. Also has a seditive effect, enabling me to get off to sleep despite some pain on lying down. Play with the time of taking it every day. Can make me feel drowsy the next day if I do not take it at about 8:00pm every day. Am up by 7, and out swimming by 8:00am, and feel fully alert, Can be a problem if drinking alcohol - joint effect is increased sleepiness. Would not consider driving after taking this medicine! Can have a slight dry mouth side effect, but not difficult to manage!

I have been taking Amitriptaline pre and post op following surgery to help with neuropathic pain. On it's own , I am not sure how well it worked for me but in conjunction with my other medication I think it helps.

This has so many benefits & as such is used in many different ways. The thing I like most is that you can take it in such low doses if preferred to start with, then on the advice of your specialist, GP, Consultant it can be increased. But again, this doesn't have to be by large quantities each time. I find this medicine is really effective, regardless of the size dose, as long as it is taken continuously at near enough the same time each day/night, as it builds up a resistance as time goes on.

Amitriptyline was prescribed for my extremely bad 'footballers' type of night cramps. I only take one each night and it has two results. Very seldom do I get cramp and it also acts as very mild sedative. Good all round with no side effects at the low dosage of 2 mg tabs.

I was prescribed this drug to manage pain associated with ME/CFS. It did relieve the pain, but it turned me into a zombie for the years I took it. I found it incredibly difficult to come off it too, even though my doctor assured me that it was not addictive. I would not recommend anyone takes it for the purpose I was prescribed it. At least not without knowing about the horrendously debilitating side effects.
